The Area

Northwest Donegal was not the first part of Ireland that Giny and Dirk visited, but when they did, they knew they could feel at home here. And they do!

By now, they travelled all over the county, drove even the narrowest roads, walked on lots of beaches, footpaths and hiking trails and have admired lots of waterfalls, wildlife and ancient monuments.

They are more than happy to do lots of suggestions, and give you directions on where and how to find them.

Some suggestions

  • Visit beautiful beaches like Keadue, Bunbeg, Port Arthur, Magheraroarty and Falcarragh beach
  • Take one of the hiking trails to the peaks of Mounts Errigal or Muckish, over Horn Head or through the Poisoned Glen
  • Walk or cycle through Ards forest park, or Glenveagh National Park, with its castle, gardens and walking and cycle paths
  • Explore little villages like Gortahork, Dunfanaghy, Falcarragh and Gweedore, with their pubs, restaurants and coffee shops
  • Take a scenic drive along the Atlantic coastline, Horn Head, Fanad peninsula, or Lough Barra Nature Reserve
  • Book a ferry to islands like Tory, Ghola or Arranmore and watch the numerous caves, beaches and birds
  • Make a day trip to Slieve League, including Assaranca Falls and the caves of Maghera, Inishowen, Derry or the Blue Stack Mountains
